Difficulty System
Difficulty is a world-wide setting chosen the first time you join a Bedrock Reimagined world. It scales Bedrock Reimagined mobs and a handful of related systems like thirst, sleep, and shroud spawns. Mobs from other add-ons are not affected. An operator can change the tier at any time through the in-game Guidebook.
How Difficulty Works
There is one difficulty setting for the whole world, and everyone playing on that world shares it. Picking a tier instantly retunes how dangerous Bedrock Reimagined mobs are and adjusts a few supporting systems to match.
- Applies world-wide, not per-player
- Only world operators can set or change it
- Affects Bedrock Reimagined mobs only. Mobs from other add-ons keep their own stats
- You're prompted to pick a difficulty the first time you join; it can be changed anytime after
Vanilla vs BR Difficulty
BR difficulty scales on top of vanilla Minecraft difficulty. It does not override it. Think of them as two separate dials running at the same time. Vanilla Minecraft (Peaceful, Easy, Normal, Hard, Hardcore) still controls all the usual stuff: hunger damage, mob aggression, zombies breaking doors, zombie reinforcements, regional difficulty, and so on. BR difficulty (Easy, Medium, Hard, Brutal) layers on top and controls BR-specific things like mob health, projectile and explosion damage, thirst rate, Shroud spawn rate, and sleep boosts.
- MC Hard + BR Easy: zombies still break doors and hunger still drains you to zero health (vanilla Hard behavior), but mobs have reduced health and damage and thirst drains slower (BR Easy).
- MC Easy + BR Brutal: mobs are tanky and hit hard, Shrouds spawn often, and sleep no longer restores health or hunger (BR Brutal), but hunger only drains to half health and zombies do not break doors (vanilla Easy).
- MC Hard + BR Brutal: the hardest normal combo. Every vanilla Hard penalty plus every BR Brutal penalty stacked.
- MC Hardcore + BR Brutal: the true hardest. Same as above, but one death ends the run.
Easy
The most relaxed tier, good for new players or anyone wanting a low-stress playthrough focused on exploration, building, and progression.
- Mobs are weaker and deal less damage
- Thirst drains slower
- Standing in water slowly refills thirst
- Sleep restores some health and hunger
- Shrouds spawn rarely
Medium
The balanced baseline and the intended Bedrock Reimagined experience. Mobs behave as designed and every system runs at its standard rate.
- Standard mob strength and damage
- Standard thirst drain
- Standing in water does not refill thirst
- Sleep restores some health and hunger
- Shrouds spawn at a normal rate
Hard
For players with decent gear who want more of a fight. Encounters, especially with bosses, take real preparation.
- Mobs are tougher and hit harder
- Thirst drains faster
- Standing in water does not refill thirst
- Sleep restores some health and hunger
- Shrouds spawn frequently
Brutal
The top tier, meant for fully geared players chasing the ultimate challenge. Every mistake is punished, hostile mobs gain new tricks, and bosses become serious threats.
- Mobs are devastating, with huge health pools and heavy hits
- Hostile mobs move noticeably faster, so outrunning them on foot is much harder
- Undead no longer burn in daylight, so the morning safety window is gone
- Most humanoid hostile mobs (zombies, skeletons, strays, husks, drowned, zombie villagers, wither skeletons, piglins, piglin brutes, goblins, mummified variants, pirates, and more) commonly spawn wearing armor — iron, chainmail, gold, copper, or leather, sometimes as a full matching set
- Wither skeletons, piglins, and piglin brutes can additionally roll diamond armor
- Some of that armor comes pre-enchanted with Protection variants, Thorns, or Unbreaking
- Spiders spawn buffed with a random potion effect: extra speed, strength, invisibility, or regeneration
- Thirst drains the fastest
- Standing in water does not refill thirst
- Sleep no longer restores health or hunger
- Shrouds spawn frequently
